Motoring / Buying guide
Rolls-Royce, Bentley and the finest alternatives—for the driver’s seat, the rear cabin and the way you actually travel.
Model and price references checked
Luxury begins with a practical question: where will you sit? A car chosen for the rear passenger has different priorities from one bought for a favorite road. Space to recline, graceful access and a carefully commissioned cabin matter to a chauffeur buyer. Steering response, manageable dimensions and the rhythm of a daily journey matter more to an owner who drives.
This guide compares 15 sedan and liftback choices, led by Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost, Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series. It includes electric flagships and sporting alternatives, with dated price references and regional specifications to make the shortlist practical.
ALVAU describes its international marketplace as spanning 170 countries. Start with the ALVAU cars category when a wider search could help you find the model, year and steering specification you want. Individual listings determine availability.
First, define the brief
What makes a luxury sedan a limousine?
Here, limousine means a factory-built flagship or chauffeur car: a luxury sedan or saloon whose design supports representative travel and a particularly accommodating cabin. A manufacturer’s long-wheelbase version can add rear space without turning the car into an aftermarket stretch limousine.
Three distinct briefs organize the comparison. Ultra-luxury and chauffeur-focused flagships put the passenger and personal commissioning near the center of the decision. Established executive sedans balance owner driving with business travel. Electric and performance alternatives change the powertrain or prioritize a more sporting experience; a Taycan is not included as a rear-seat equivalent of a Phantom.
The correct body matters. Panamera and EQS have liftback openings, while the Century sedan is separate from the higher-riding Century. SUVs, two-door grand tourers and converted party limousines sit outside this guide. A famous badge does not make their cabins, prices or dimensions interchangeable.
Consider the whole journey. The seat that feels comfortable in a showroom also needs to work behind your driver, with your luggage and at the curbside where passengers usually enter. A longer wheelbase is a starting point for that evaluation, not a substitute for it.
A useful starting budget
Luxury sedan comparison: character and example prices
Read the price basis before comparing the amounts. A highly configured Phantom at a dealer and an entry-model Audi MSRP answer different budget questions. The table identifies the exact reference used, while each profile explains important equipment and fee distinctions.

Regional RHD entries are purchase leads based on the cited local model ranges, rather than confirmation of every derivative or of a particular car’s stock status. U.S. prices do not apply to those regional versions. Confirm the steering position, model year, wheelbase and engine on the actual build sheet. Taxes, fees and options follow each source’s stated basis; no currency conversions are used.
The budget is only one part of the shortlist. Decide which rear-seat or driving features are essential, then explore international car listings on ALVAU for individual cars that might fit.
The established names
Six flagship model families
Six familiar reference points cover different approaches to flagship luxury. The profiles follow the buying brief, with recommendations based on published specifications and intended use.
The ceremonial flagship
Rolls-Royce Phantom
The eighth-generation Phantom family, in its Series II era, combines a tall Pantheon grille, upright roofline and coach rear doors with a V12 powertrain. Choose the standard car or Phantom Extended according to the rear space you actually need. The Gallery’s glass-fronted fascia provides a setting for commissioned artwork.
Bespoke finishes, seat layouts and entertainment equipment require an individual specification. The Phantom suits an owner who values chauffeur travel and ceremonial presence. Its compromises are scale and the cost of a personal commission: neither a photograph nor a highly configured asking price establishes what every Phantom includes.
Dated price reference
USD 703,498 — USA · 2026 dealer-listed Phantom · configured asking price
Cleveland stock BR235002: USD 703,050 configured MSRP, USD 50 title processing and USD 398 documentary fees. The dealer does not clearly identify the wheelbase. Confirm it and taxes; this is one configured offer, not either wheelbase’s base price.

A more personal Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce Ghost
Current Ghost Series II develops the second-generation car. A lower silhouette, slimmer lighting and a cleaner front give it a less ceremonial character than Phantom. Rolls-Royce’s Series II release confirms a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12, eight-speed gearbox, all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering; its digital environment uses SPIRIT.
Ghost Extended addresses a stronger rear-seat priority, while Black Badge offers a different interpretation. Compare seating and Bespoke equipment on the build sheet. Ghost suits owners who sometimes drive personally, accepting that its more approachable character still brings considerable commissioning and ownership costs.

Craftsmanship with a driver’s agenda
Bentley Flying Spur
The latest Flying Spur combines a long hood and sculpted shoulders with a refreshed face using one oval headlamp per side. Its current range includes Flying Spur, Azure, S, Speed and Mulliner. Azure uses a 4.0-liter V8 plug-in hybrid; a historic W12 description does not apply.
Compare rear seating, chassis equipment, veneers and audio on the ordered car; options and Mulliner choices change the invoice. The Flying Spur suits buyers balancing passenger luxury with driving character. The price below describes an earlier-styled 2026 Azure, while the illustration represents the refreshed family: obtain a separate quote for the new appearance.

The flexible executive choice
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The long-wheelbase 2027 U.S. S-Class adds star-themed lights, a revised grille and MBUX Superscreen. S 500’s inline-six mild hybrid lists 442 hp; the V8 S 580 lists 530 hp. Standard AIRMATIC and optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL are separate chassis specifications.
Rear ventilation, massage and seating equipment depend on the configuration; power rear seats are optional on S 500. Inspect the package behind your driver’s normal position. S-Class suits business travel and regular personal driving, with the cost of selecting the right rear cabin as a key tradeoff. UK long-wheelbase engines differ from the U.S. lineup.

Quietly assertive luxury
Audi A8 / A8 L
The D5-family A8 pairs a broad Singleframe grille and disciplined body lines with a restrained executive presence. Audi’s 2027 U.S. A8 is a long-wheelbase car; A8 L is separately named in the UK. The U.S. 3.0-liter V6 mild hybrid produces 335 hp with quattro AWD.
Standard U.S. features include 22-way front comfort seats, S line exterior styling and OLED taillights. All-wheel steering is available. Examine the actual rear package rather than infer amenities from the front seats. A8 suits discreet business travel; the compromise is finding the right regional wheelbase and equipment. S8 is the performance-oriented family alternative.

A technology-led flagship
BMW 7 Series
BMW’s 2027 update remains within the seventh-generation family. Its large kidney grille, slim upper lights and smaller lower lamps accompany a redesigned cabin with Panoramic iDrive and a standard Passenger Screen. The 31.3-inch rear Theater Screen and specialized rear equipment require an option check.
U.S. launch models include gasoline mild-hybrid 740 and 740 xDrive; the U.S. 750e plug-in hybrid follows in Q1 2027, on a different timetable from the UK. Choose 7 Series for its technology and adaptable passenger space. Its compromises are an assertive appearance, substantial dimensions and the cost of assembling the desired cabin.

Broaden the shortlist
Further choices for the rear cabin
Maybach adds a more dedicated passenger environment; Genesis, Lexus and Toyota bring different design traditions and regional purchase considerations.
Built around the rear passenger
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Longer rear-cabin proportions, a vertical grille and formal rear windows distinguish Maybach from a regular S-Class. The 2027 U.S. S 580 uses a 4.0-liter V8 mild hybrid; S 680 uses a 6.0-liter V12. Both have 4MATIC. The U.S. guide lists Superscreen and dual 13.1-inch rear displays as standard highlights.
Compare specialized seating, finishes and optional equipment on the build sheet; two-tone paint is a choice. Maybach suits predominantly chauffeured journeys, with size and cabin specification costs as tradeoffs. A UK hybrid is a different derivative and cannot inherit the U.S. S 580’s engine description or price.

A different executive vocabulary
Genesis G90
Second-generation G90 distinguishes itself through a large Crest grille and thin Two-Line headlights. The 2026 U.S. range offers 3.5T AWD and a V6 configuration with an available 48V e-Supercharger. Nappa leather is standard; premium audio and Easy Close doors are equipment-dependent.
Inspect the massage seating and rear armrest controls on the actual car. A Korea-market extended specification is not automatically the U.S. offering. G90 suits a full-size executive brief with a different marque identity. The overseas tradeoffs are regional support and equipment compatibility; the cited U.S. material does not confirm factory RHD.

A final U.S. edition, with regional distinctions
Lexus LS
The fifth-generation LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition is Lexus’s final-year U.S. offering for 2026, limited to 250 cars. Ninety Noir paint, dark exterior details and Rioja Red upholstery complement its spindle grille and flowing roof. Its 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 416 hp; heated rear seats and Mark Levinson audio are specified.
The attraction is a coherent limited edition, with reduced choice and remaining-stock uncertainty as compromises. Japan’s LS range is a separate regional offering. The U.S. announcement does not establish a worldwide production shutdown or an RHD Heritage package. Confirm the exact car available with the retailer.

The Japanese chauffeur tradition
Toyota Century sedan
Century sedan’s rectangular lights, phoenix grille and formal rear pillar express a Japanese chauffeur tradition. It is separate from the higher-riding Century. Toyota’s December 2025 specification identifies UWG60: a 5.0-liter V8 full hybrid, 5,335-mm body and 3,090-mm wheelbase, rather than the other Century’s plug-in powertrain.
Evaluate its rear-cabin specification, upholstery and controls. Japan is the relevant RHD reference; the catalog does not establish a normal LHD factory order. The Century suits specialist chauffeur use, with overseas registration eligibility, service support and regional compatibility as practical tradeoffs.

A different approach to the journey
Electric flagships and sporting alternatives
Separate full-size electric passenger cars from sedans whose central attraction is driving character. Charging, body style and the precise range-rating method all matter.
A rear-cabin flagship with electric drive
BMW i7
The updated G70-family i7 retains 7 Series’ long cabin and imposingly upright grille, with the new panoramic cockpit. U.S. 2027 launch variants are i7 50 xDrive and 60 xDrive, both dual-motor AWD. Rear Theater Screen and executive seating specifications remain choices to verify.
BMW currently shows a 344–362-mile preliminary estimate for its i7 60 reference, dependent on equipment and using EPA test procedures. This is not an unconditional certified range for every i7. Choose it for electric flagship passenger space, accepting charging planning and regional hardware, software and warranty checks when buying internationally.

Aerodynamic electric long-distance luxury
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan
EQS’s aerodynamic roof arc and short hood contrast with a traditional S-Class. Mercedes calls it a sedan, but its rear hatch makes it a liftback. The 2027 technical release specifies 800-volt architecture, a 122-kWh usable battery and charging up to 350 kW under suitable conditions.
Its cited up-to-925-km EQS 450+ range is WLTP, not U.S. EPA. U.S. 450+ is rear-drive; 500 and 580 are AWD. Hyperscreen, AIRMATIC and available rear entertainment suit electric business travel. Check rear options, charging conditions and local ratings; EQS SUV is a separate body.

Space and electric range with a lighter visual footprint
Lucid Air Touring
Air Touring’s low nose, fine light strip and curved glass cabin offer a lighter executive presence. Lucid’s current model-year-2027 page lists AWD and 620 hp. The up-to-431-mile range is explicitly a manufacturer projection on 19-inch wheels, with official EPA estimates to follow; charging illustrations also require specified conditions.
Compare upholstery, optional comfort packages and the rear seat against your passengers. Touring suits owner driving and electric distance rather than Phantom Extended’s passenger-first brief. Regional service coverage and compatible charging are important overseas tradeoffs. The cited U.S. range does not establish a factory RHD version.
Dated price reference
USD 79,900 — USA · 2027 Air Touring · manufacturer starting price
Lucid’s 2027 U.S. Touring starting figure excludes tax, title, license, destination and documentation fees. Options add to the invoice; the projected range requires its stated wheel specification.

The driver’s luxury liftback
Porsche Panamera
Third-generation Panamera is a four-door luxury liftback with sculpted fenders, taller headlamp housings and a sporting roofline. Its 2027 U.S. range includes rear-drive gasoline, AWD and E-Hybrid choices. Adaptive air suspension with PASM is standard; Active Ride is optional for E-Hybrid models.
Try the rear seating layout and access: four doors do not guarantee dedicated-limousine accommodation. The liftback can help with luggage, while the cabin posture deserves a personal assessment. Panamera suits buyers prioritizing driving character, with rear-cabin priorities and option costs as tradeoffs. Do not assume a historic Executive derivative remains in the current range.
Dated price reference
USD 113,000 — USA · 2027 Panamera · starting MSRP

Electric performance before limousine scale
Porsche Taycan sedan
Taycan’s low hood, slim lights and sculpted rear shoulders express an electric sports-sedan brief. The 2027 U.S. entry sedan is rear-drive, with AWD alternatives separately priced. Porsche describes 800-volt architecture, charging up to 320 kW under suitable conditions and Performance Battery Plus as standard on its current page.
Check variant-specific rear steering and Active Ride options. Try the low seats and rear access, and obtain the range rating for the exact battery and wheels. Taycan suits performance-led owner driving; its tradeoffs are rear space, access and charging requirements. Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo are distinct bodies, not substitutes for the sedan.

Other luxury marques worth investigating
Cadillac CELESTIQ offers a custom-commissioned, hand-built electric approach and is worth a separate conversation with Cadillac about current ordering, specification and pricing. Its individual commission requires a personalized quotation and confirmation of the delivery schedule.
Hongqi H9 is another regional sedan lead on the manufacturer’s global site. Before adding it to your active shortlist, resolve the current local generation, steering specification, dealer support and written price. Evaluate the cabin materials, passenger equipment and ownership support directly against your requirements.
Match the car to the use
Which luxury sedan fits the way you travel?
For any route, preserve budget for the specification that makes the car useful. A rear entertainment screen is optional on some models, while another car may include rear displays but offer different seats. Check those distinctions before choosing a more expensive engine.
With a used example, compare like with like: generation, facelift, wheelbase, mileage, maintenance and condition. A historic Flying Spur W12 or earlier 7 Series interior should be evaluated on its own specification. The cost of a particular used car cannot be inferred from a current new-model MSRP.
The steering wheel is not the traffic direction
Left-hand drive or right-hand drive?
- LHD
- The steering wheel is on the vehicle’s left. This is typical of U.S. cars and many continental-European cars, usually driven in right-side traffic.
- RHD
- The steering wheel is on the vehicle’s right. This is typical of UK and Japanese cars, usually driven in left-side traffic.
Factory availability must be established for the actual generation and derivative. A UK model range can be a useful RHD search lead while offering engines that differ from the U.S. LHD range. A photograph on a regional manufacturer page may show a nonlocal specification. Always obtain a clear cabin photograph and the build sheet for the car you intend to buy.
For the G90 and Air references used here, the cited current U.S. material does not confirm factory RHD. Conversely, the Century’s Japan-market sedan is not evidence of an ordinary factory LHD order. “Not confirmed” is a limitation of the cited evidence, not proof that every possible market or special order has been examined.
Steering position is only the first compatibility check. Examine regional headlights, instruments, documentation, service history and warranty terms. For an electric car, confirm the inlet, charging equipment, supported voltage and local charging-network compatibility; also ask about regional software and connected services.
Before paying, check the destination country’s current import, approval and registration requirements with its relevant authority. An attractive overseas price and a matching steering position do not establish that the car can be registered locally. Include transport, cargo insurance, taxes and any required work in the written purchase budget.
Start an international LHD or RHD car search on ALVAU, then verify each listing against these requirements. A category link should widen the search, not replace inspection and documentation.
Search beyond your local market
Start your international luxury car search on ALVAU
A useful search starts with a precise brief. Write down the model family, acceptable years, wheelbase, powertrain and steering position before comparing advertisements. Keep required equipment separate from preferences: rear recline might be essential, while a particular veneer or wheel design might be negotiable.
- Define the car. Specify the intended passenger use, destination market and essential equipment. Use this guide’s profiles to identify the relevant manufacturer version.
- Compare individual listings. Open the ALVAU cars category and examine the details the seller actually supplies. Request the VIN, build specification, current mileage and country of registration.
- Verify the example. Ask for service records, ownership documents and an independent inspection. Resolve discrepancies between model badges, photographs and the description before committing.
- Compare the complete purchase. Obtain a written total and clarify taxes, delivery, transport insurance, warranty and destination registration. A dealer asking price, factory MSRP and final delivered cost are different figures.

ALVAU describes its marketplace as spanning 170 countries, making it a place to begin a broader search for cars suited to different markets. That reach does not establish that every model in this guide is listed, that both steering configurations are in stock, or that any vehicle can be imported everywhere.

Luxury sedan buying questions
What is the difference between a luxury sedan and a stretch limousine?
A luxury sedan is a factory-built passenger car; its long-wheelbase version belongs to the manufacturer’s model family. A stretch limousine has been substantially lengthened or converted. This guide concentrates on factory flagships and clearly identified electric or sporting alternatives.
How does the Rolls-Royce Ghost differ from the Phantom?
Ghost takes a less ceremonial, more owner-driver-oriented approach. Phantom emphasizes its flagship presence and commissioned passenger environment. Both have Extended choices. Compare wheelbase, rear seating and Bespoke equipment according to how frequently you drive personally or use a chauffeur.
What separates a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class from an S-Class?
Maybach has a more dedicated rear-passenger brief, longer cabin proportions and its own trim and equipment approach. A regular S-Class can also have extensive rear options. Compare actual specifications; neither badge establishes that every available amenity is fitted.
Is a long-wheelbase model worth choosing for chauffeur travel?
Investigate it when legroom, recline and access matter. Inspect the seating package behind your driver’s normal position, with the front passenger seat adjusted realistically. Measure your parking area and try access with the passengers who will use the car.
Which electric luxury sedans are worth considering?
Compare i7 and EQS for flagship-cabin use, Air Touring for another electric executive approach, and Taycan for sporting priorities. Check local charging and the exact battery and wheels. Manufacturer projections, preliminary estimates and different rating cycles need separate interpretation.
What is the difference between LHD and RHD?
LHD places the steering wheel on the vehicle’s left; RHD places it on the right. These terms describe the car, not the traffic direction. U.S. cars commonly use LHD, while UK and Japanese cars commonly use RHD. Verify the actual example.
What should you check before buying a luxury car internationally?
Verify VIN, year, wheelbase, steering, equipment and service history. Check seller identity, ownership documents, warranty, destination eligibility and complete delivered costs. An EV also requires compatible charging and regional support. Obtain written answers and an independent inspection before committing.
Where can you start looking for international luxury car listings?
Explore Cars on ALVAU to start a wider search. ALVAU describes its marketplace as spanning 170 countries. Confirm each car’s location, steering, specification and terms with the seller. The general category does not guarantee that a specific model or configuration is currently available.

A Phantom commission, a carefully equipped S-Class and an electric Air solve different needs. Begin with the seat you will use most, the journeys you regularly take and the regional specification that can be supported where you live. Then compare the individual car, its documentation and the complete purchase budget.
When a wider search matters, use the international perspective to find more possibilities—and keep the verification specific to the car.
